The way points of this running / walking route:
This is the start/finish of the "Kyotanabeonesugi Hiking Course. To get to this point, I suggest you come via bus. Number 75-bus leaves J.R. Nagao station bound for Hotani, where you catch bus-78 for Tenno.
From this point you get your first view of the countryside and a course you will be walking on in the following few kilometers.
You may spot the torii, on your left here. Take the time to check-out the shrine.
It's not much of a shrine, but a nice detour through the bush.
Route-65, the road you are about to enter, can be very-busy, especially with trucks. Take caution.
You will notice the noticeboard, with a map carved on it (the same as there was at the start). Check it out to see your present situation.
Although the track isn't part of the course, I suggest you take it, as it gets you off the road.
Use your imagination here. You will see a track between the rice fields, that will take you to the road.
From this point you will get a good view of the surrounding countryside.
There is a small arrowed-sign on the left of the road. Take it up the hill. From here, to when you exit the bush, the track is well marked with arrowed-signs and red-ribbons tied to trees. It is a bit of a climb to begin with, but, after about 5-minutes, you will reach a plateau.
At this point you pass under a tall red pylon. You will get glimpses of the pylon as you navigate the course.
There is another arrowed-sign here. Take care as you enter the road. Your course continues on the opposite side of the road and follows a narrow lane beside a tin fence.
This is a great vantage point to take a photo of the surrounding area. You will see the red pylon in the distance.
You will see two stone monuments on the right of the track. from this point you are able, on a clear day, see Nara Park.
There is another arrowed-sign here. Also be careful as you enter the road.
Welcome to Takafune. A wee detour to a couple of complexes that will impress you.
Small, but very beautiful. In Autumn the colours are awesome.
This is an old shrine (I am not sure of it's date) but very peaceful.
There is an obscure track, leading off another track, that will bring you back to the road.
Back onto the course again. There is another arrowed signpost directing you.
You will see another arrowed sign on your left, directing you to your right. The track is well marked, but, due to the dense bush, kep an eye out for other markers.
There is a rock monument here, you are not far from your next destination.
As you exit the bush, you will come-across this building. Take note of the Buddha Statue, to the rear of the building.
This is an ideal place to break for a rest and bite-to-eat.
As you descend the steps, you rejoin the road. Be aware of any traffic.
The track at this point can be a bit obscure.
As you exit the bush, the next few-hundred meters will give you great views of the Japanese countryside, especially the rice fields.
You take the right branch, at this point. The track becomes obscure and dense. But it is well marked.
You are standing on the borders of three prefectures - Osaka-fu, Kyoto-fu and Nara-ken.
There is another arrowed sign here.
You take the left branch at this junction. Take note of the two small statuettes.
Turn right here.
Don't be in a rush to experience this complex. It is awesome.
After exiting the shrine complex, continue beneath the Torii and go straight ahead.
There are some lovely scenery from here.
Turn left here. If you have the time, take a wander through the village.
Be careful here of any traffic. At this point you can see your bus stop and the completion of the course.
